Fires in Wellington.
Wellington, last night.
Yesterday morning Johnstone and Co's warehouse escaped destruction by fire. At 7 o’clock smoke was seen issuing out of the roof. The alarm was immediately given and the firemen were quickly on the scene and they could only roach the fire by re moving the iron from the roof. On gaining admission the fire was discovered to be in offices of Messrs Bell, Gully and Izard, Solicitors. The library was uninjured, but a large number of legal documents were destroyed. A large quantity of merchandise of Johnston's was destroyed. Everything was fully insured. At 5 o'clock yesterday evening a boarding house on Thorndon Quay was totally destroyed by fire. The flames spread so quickly that little furniture was svaved The insurances were—Northern Co. £3BO, and Phcenix £2OO.
