Hawke’s Bay Education Board.

At a meeting of the Hiwke’s Biy Education Board the following business of interest to this district was transacted :—

From Matawhero, asking for a grant of £4O for painting residence and extending porch.—Postponed. From Ormond, asking for a teacher's residence.—No Funds.

From Te Arai, asking for further accommodation for the mister, eleven persona now living in four rooms. —No funds. From Te Karaka, recommending Mr Orr as Commissioner. —The Inspector said the expense in these cases was very great for advertising. Tbe Board should appoint a Commissioner. They could not get out of the expense where there was a school district. —Received.

From Waipawu, forwarding resignation of Mr Burt as second master, and recommending Miss Rosie for the appointment, and Miss Grant to be mistress.—Against regulations, and the Committee to be recommended to appoint Mr Lord—a now arrival—which the Board confirmed b forehand.

From Waerenga-a-hika, applying for rent of site.—Committee to pay was the agreement.

From same, asking for additions.—No funds.

From Waerenga a kurl, forwarding Miss LongdiU's resignation.—Accepted. From Education Department, stating the time for which scholarships were awarded must be definitely stated.—Received. From Women’s Temperance Union, asking that Dr Richardson's temperance book might be adopted as a text book in the schools.— The book could be used by any School Committee by tbe regulations of the Government.

From architect, submitting plans for a school at Patutahi.—Deferred till next meet-

ing. There was some discussion on the question of holidays, but ultimately no change was made in the existing regulations. The building fund overdraft was stated to bo £1452 8i 5.1, and existing liabilities would increase It to £2114 15s s'd.
