Gisborne has had a pleasant freedom froth bankruptcies for the past few months, but the latest addition to the list will shed a lustre upon a record that is already bright with gems of an unenviable brilliancy. Samuel Evinson la ths most recent accessory to the ranks, and his statement of assets and liabilities may well induce the question, should not Mr Evinson congratulate himself that he is a member of this grand and glorious country, where men oan run into debt when they have no hopes of repayment, and without any prospect of punishment for their misdoings in that respect? The worst part of this affair is not that there is a deficiency of over four times the assets set down on paper ; it is the conduct which has led to things being in that position, There Is no need to say many things which are best left unsaid, but it may be noted that in this case the cursed drink is responsible for a terrible infliction on more than those to whom it has been dispensed,
