PARK R.C. WINTER MEETING The winter meeting of the above club was held on the Park course on Tuesday last, and was a very successful one. Early in the morning rain fell, and things looked as though the club were doomed to be once more disappointed of a fine day. However the rain cleared off, and although the sky became over2 oast towards noon, the aspect of the weather was not of such a nature as to create any fear for an immediate downpour, and visitors were Consequently tempted by the prospect of fine racing to make the journey to the Park. The Course, though in some parts very good going, - - was in ether places soft and slippery, but notwithstanding this not a single accident OWarred to mar the pleasure of the day’s proceedings. The fields were large and the racing very good, the finishes for the Pony Race and Winter Oats Handicap being very exciting. The totalisators were well patronised during the day, the sum of £3,338 going through the machines. Of this total £2,243 was invested on the outside totalisator and £1093 inside. The following are the results of the various events June Handicap: Soudan, 8 2,1; Dauphine 6,6, 2 ; Bronte, 7.2, 3. Ariel and Orwell also started ; won by half a length, Ariel never ► being in the hunt, and finishing last. Pony Race : Kapai, 9.0, 1; Marama, 9.6, 2 ; Elena, 8.8, 3. This was a grand race, a hundred yards from the post, Marama, with Wally Clifford up, had a head the best of it, and appeared to be winning, but she unfortunately got into soft ground and stumbled slightly, thus leaving the gelding to win by a bare neck. Handicap Steeplechse : Panic, 9.0, 1 ; Chemist, 12.10, 2; Defamer, 9.10, 3. Orient, Orlando, Premium, Waterfall and Jubilee also ran. Panic won easily by ten lengths, Chemist besting Defamer in the straight for second place. . ? a “ : Emerald, 8.8, 1i Burd Helen, 8.5, 2; Marshall Ney, 7.4, 3. Titikei, The B ove .’ .^, el ' ose > Oaklands, Angler, Kapai, Martini-Enfield and Erena also ran ; Rob Roy, Princess Helen, and Red Oomyn were scratched, A good race; on entering the straight Clifford gave Emerald her head, " n »7. w n J? ing i? 6 length and a half. Winter Oats Handicap : Pretender, 7.0, 1; *•“»< J 7 2 » Rangipai, 7.0, 3. Lady Florin, Dauphins, Tennyson, Tit, and Eileen also started. Pretender, who was ridden with peat judgment, just managed to squeeze home by a short head. . Ksce . ! Chemiet. 19.4, 1 j Waterfall, 10.7, 2 ; Jubilee, 9,16, 3, Orient, Premium, Liberty, Orlando, and Glencoe also ran. A very good race i Waterfall, at the second Jump from home, led Chemist by half • length, but th? little son of The Painter Mme away on Igadiug, and at the jump in the straight he was leading by two lengths from Waterfell. The letter attemut ? dl tp Catch the leader on the flat, but the t fl u weight having the most left in him, won, amidst loud cheering! by fully three lengths.
