Farmer’s Co-operation.
[to THE EDITOB.j Sia,—Your contemporary has obtained such ' a maeteiy over the accomplishment known as equivocation, or what would be known in domestic circles as '• two-fasadness," that it is very difficult for one to grasp what it really does mren, but it was a little more plainer on Baiurdey when it took up a half-hearted against the small farming interest. Even then it only dares cay in effect, “You can have it, if you will, you know ; we won’t atop you, but we won’t support you, and it you fail we can say it served you right,” Now this is such a laudable spirit that it deserves encouragement, because it will do a great deal more harm to the evil counsellor than it will to the farmers. First your contemporary tried to pooh pooh us by saying the hopes of the district are vested in the freezing industry. Then we are treated to a peculiar style of reasoning that cannot be rammed into the dull noddle of at least yours truly. Good management, we are told, is to be left out of the question, because it Is so indispensable, When our old sow next gets a litter of suckers we must try the experiment of turning her cut, and see if the suckers will starve, because the sow is co indispensable to them that she can be done without, But I would sooner that some other farmer first tried the experiment. Thea if no more produce la grown than at present, the tbiing must certainly fall, io we are told in the few pointed lines' that can be extracted from ibis cold water applies tion, Barely to goodness anyone knows that if the thing is a success, production will be Increased, but supposing it does not, if better prices can be obtained for the produce is that not some gain ? I have about lost patience with this prophet of evil. The farmers have all to gain e.nd very little to lose if the thing is set about properly, But it is just as well to know what opposition can be .expected before a beginning is made, and your contemporary has shown its hand in good time, —I am, Ac., OSZ WHO IS TUEBB.
