Wellington Sporting Notes.
A PECULIAR OCCURENCE. WRixrxGTorr, last night. A meeting of the steward* of the Wellington Racing Club was held at noon to-day, the special business being to consider the acceptance for the races which had accidentally been mislaid, at the Club It appears that Mr H. Walter, of posted a letter containing an acceptance, and an entry, to the Secretary of th* Club, addressed to the Club Hotel, Wellington, on Thursday, the 4th iust., whica was duly received at the Post Offioa here by the late v train on the same date, and placed in the — Club Hotel's private box, but owing .to Ihxf hotel changing hands the same day th* box at the Poet Office was not cleared till Monday last the Bth inst., and a* the acceptances for the Steeplechase Meeting closed on Friday last, th* Secretary placed the matter before the Stewards for their decision. The circhmstanoes having bead * thoroughly investigated, the Steward* expressed theraselvs satisfied of the bona fidee of the case, and resolved that Mr Walter'* letter should bo treated as though it had been received on the proper date. Mr Walter’s horse Kincraig, lOst, has therefore been added to the list of acceptors for the Hurdle Handicap, and to the list of entries for the Selling Hurdle Race. Four Napier candidates for the Steeple- ■» chase Meeting on Saturday, arrived over. land from Napier today—Chemist, Panic. Defamor, and Pretender. Waterfall is expected to arrive tomorrow.
