The Freezing Works Site.
Work is progressing steadily at the site of the freezing works, nsar the Hapara crack, and each week places us nearer the consummation of our hopes in regard to the establishment of the meat freezing industry in Gisborne! The road leading to the site is in first olasl condition, and over the Hapara creek a cart bridge has been constructed. The bridge is of one span, 50 by 10. A little lower down the creek a dam is being constructed, evidently with the view of making a storage for the fresh water. Two large buildings are also in course of erection, being no doubt meant for the accommodation of the workmen who will reside on tb« property, On the bsnk of the Taruheru river a substantial wharf is being built, the site being a short distance above the Hspqra Qreek. Qn the ground there io a quantity of timber stacked, this evidently being a portion of the material with which the main building is to be constructed. Alto, getber the place presents a very changed and busy appearance from what it did a few months back, and the utilitarian spirit is fast removing every vestige of the monotony of waste that characterised the site on which the freezing works ari to be constructed. Ths natural suitability of the place is a good testimony of the foresight exercised by the management, When the little steamer specially intended toy the river is completed; and the works are going ahead in full’ swing, it will make a great change in thii usually slMpy eoudiiiofi fit Gisborne.
