Football: Gisborne v. Hawke’s Bay.

The annual football match, Gisborne versus Hawke’s Ba?, took place in Napier on Saturday afternoon last. The latter team were victorious by tan pointe to three, The Gisborne team left by the Waihora on Friday night, and got into Napier in tinge to breakfast at the Ma 3 °nio Hotel. The game commenced at about three, there being a large attendance of spectators and the weather being splendid, The ground was vary bad, and told hard on the Gisborne men, The latter were relying a good deal on their back play, but the mud was in some places ankle deep, and it may be guessed chat this did not give much of a chance for smart work, Mr A. W Bees captained the Gisborne team and Mr Lowry the Hawke's Bay men. The latter bad the kick off and some fast work soon took the ball into the Gisborne 25. Staite relieved his side, and subsequently Skeet and Snow did the same service. The play then began to brighten up, and after some good work Mrrrison got over the line, and from his touch Lowry obtained a goal tor Hawke's Bay. Shortly after the corqmenoerqent of the second spell Taku potted a nice goal for Hawke's Bay, From this out the Gisborne men played up splendidly, Skeet, Snow, Lewis, and the Bees brothers doing capital work, Lowry managed to pot another goal for Napier. The ball was rushed back again, and after an exciting piece of work Marshall got a touch for Gisborne, and A. Bees secured a goal from it, Thenceforward the Gisborne men pressed their opponents very hard; until time was called, Ifi the evening the visitors were Entertained at a splendid oanquet, and after a very jolly time had been spent, the festivities had to be cut short, and a return made for home, the Napier people giving the boys an enthusiastic send off.
