-At a recent meeting of the Melbourne City Council, Councillor Anderson, speaking against the [proposed leasing of the' western market, was interrupted by Councillor Pratt, who appealed to the Mayor to stop the “ flow ot nonsense of a clown,” ’bo that the affairs of the Courtcil tnight be. discussed in a busi-ness-like manner. He also expressed the opinion that unless the character of the discussions was altered it would be impossible to get gentlemen to enter the Council. Councillor Anderson retorted that, Councillor Pratt did not introduce gentlemanly manners into the Council, and was, moreover, incompetent to perform the duties of a Councillor. Councillor Pratt replied that if he stood for Parliament as Councillor Anderson had done, he would at any rate have enough votes to save his deposit of £5O, “ But you might not have the money to stake,” was the.rejoinder, The Mayor then intervened.
