Yesterday’s B.M. Court.

Daniel Beady was charged with being drunk and disorderly on Saturday afternoon last. Constable Pardoe having proved the offence, the prisoner was asked whether he had anything to say, and he replied : " The Police can swear what they like it is no use for me to say anything." Mr Booth: The police are on their oath to apeak the truth. Fined 10a and costs. The same prisoner was then charged With brutally beating his wife, on Saturday. When asked whether he pleaded guilty or not he said : I only struck her with a light stick because she threw a jar st my head, I am sure I did not hurt her. My wife left me about twelve months ago to go and live with hersister." The prisoner was here interrupted by Mr Booth, who said they did not want to hear all the family troubles. Sergeant Bullen said that Mrs Ready was unable to attend the Court that day as she was covered with bruises and could not leave her bed. He would ask for a remand till Tuesday morning, which was granted. John Jackson pleaded guilty to being drunk three times witbin six months. John said : I had a few shillings on Saturday and got two or three drinks ; as I could not stand much it fiew to my head. I would ask you, Mr Booth, to be as light as you can with me.—Mr Booth : Seven days —that will give you time to get sober. A first offender was fined 10s for being drunk and disorderly.
