Poverty Bay Turf Club.
Thk annual general meeting of members was held at the Masonic Hotel last Saturday, afternoon, when the outgoing oommitten report and balance sheet ware read and adopted, Messrs Winter, Wethered, and A. Q. Arthur were elected members of committee for the ensuing year. Ths progrsmms ot last year.’ Spring meeting was adopted, ths only alteration being the increase of the Flying Stakes to 75 aovs. The annual subscription, as suggested in the outgoing Committee's renort. was reduced to 3 guineas, Tuesday, 15th October Is the date fixed tot the Spring Meeting. The programme will bg duly published in our columns, COMMITTIz’g BEPOBT. Your Committee are again pleased to report that the financial results of the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s past si.son hsvs been very satisfactory. The snm of £5O hae been added to the fixed deposit account, making £3OO under this heading to the credit of the Club in the Union Bank. Ths totalirai tor purchased from Mr Heslop of Auckland, has materially assisted the revenue of ths Club, and your Committee feel iatisfi>d thst the purchase of a machine was, and hae proved, a step in the right direction, The stakes for the past season were increased by £132. The amounts given in st ikes during the last three years read as follows lB96 7, £1078; 1887-8, £1183; 1888 9, £lBlO, An increase is shown in the nomination, for th( principal handicaps. 118 being received tat 1887-88, and 167 for 1888 9. The race courts, grass, and plough gallops have been kept in good order during the past season end require little expense to keep them so. Your outgoin Committee strongly advise that ths same oareful attention shall ba paid to them this season. Your Committee also suggest that a letter box, for receiving nominations and acceptances, be placed in the Masonic Hotel near the club's notice board. Your Commit. tee again tender their hearty thanks to Mr 0. D. Bennett for handicapping, and to Captain Winter foresting as starter for the club during the past sea.on; the efforts of these gentlemen were much apprßiated by honeowners and the racegoing public. Messrs Winter and Wethered retire by rotation from the Oom, mittee, but are eligible for re eleotion, A third vaoanoy has also occurred; it is therefor* necessary to elect three Committeeman for the ensuing year. Your Committee would suggest that the annual subscription should ba reduced from five to three guineas.
