Maori Boys Playing Steam Engines.
ONE BOY SCALDED TO DEATH. (fbom opb own correspondent.) Najieb, last night. An inquest was held at the Fakipaki pah on Monday last, on the body of a boy named Pentigi Poki, six years old, who met his death under peculiar circumstances last Thursday. It appears that three Maori boys filled an oil drum with water, and placed it to boil on a fire which they made against a bank. They put a whistle in the ou drum, intending to imitate a steam engine by steam blowing through the whistle. When however the water boiled, the cork Of the oil drum was forced out, and the heated water poured out with great force Over the unfortunate Pentigi, who had just gomu up to see what was going on. The poor boy was dreadfully scalded, and lingered in great agony till the following night, when he died. A verdict was returned of accidental death,
