GISBORNE ROWING CLUB.
The annual general meeting of the Gisborne Rowing Club was held in the Masonic Hotel on Tuesday evening. Over twenty members were present, Mr Bourn occupying the chair. The balance-sheet was read, and showed receipts £93 10s 31, expenditure £93 0s 6d, leaving a credit balance in band of 9s 9d. The assets were set down at £251 Is 9d ; liabilities nil. The Treasurer reported :—Acoomoanying the balance-sheet for the season 1888-89, I beg to make the following report. During the season I have received the sum of £7l 6s in subscriptions, sale of old pair oars £4 14s 6d, and other small amounts, making a total of £93 10s3d. You will remember wo started the season with a debit balance of £37, which included £2l owing to Jas. Edwards and Son. At the beginning of the season all the boats were thoroughly overhauled,, repaired and varnished at a cost of £2O, and new sculls were procured, costing £3. Towards those amounts the greater portion of the dub's funds have been applied, and the balance has been expanded in the payment of custodians' salary, insurance, printing, carting, material, and other incidental expenses, leaving a balance in the Bank of 9s 9d. After careful examination of the books I find that this is the first occasion since the formation of the club that we have been able to start a new season out of debt. On the motion of Mr A. O'Meara the report was adopted. The resignations of Messrs A. Townley and A Booth were accepted, those members being out of town. The following new members were elected: Messrs J. Haughey, J. Sims, C. Rosie, G. Johnstone, A. Cameron, T. King, E. Skeet, and T. B. Mouat. The officers for the ensuing year were appointed as follows :—President, Dr H. Pollen; Vice President, Dr Innes ; Captain, Mr G. A. Bourne; Treasurer, Mr W. Miller ; Secretary, Mr Youngs Committee —Messrs A, O’Meara, W. S. Lunn, J. H. Colebourne, E. J. Spurdie, and H. J. Chrisp. Auditor. Mr F. Drummond. Custodian, Mr P. L. O'Meara, Dr Pollan suggested to the Committee the advieableneesof procuring single sculling boats for the dub. He considered that sculling should be encouraged in Gisborne, It would also prove of great benefit to the club, as some persons would only go in for single sculling. The Treasurer reported that Mr Muir had premised to present some trophies for competition this s'easori. The Chairman said the Committee would make arrangements to have the opening day as soon as possible this season. Votes of thanks were passed to the outgoing committee and officers, and also to the Chairman, and the meeting adjourned.
