NATIVE LAND LEGISLATION.
POSITION OF THE NATIVE BILLS. [STANDARD SPECIAL CORBUPONDIST.j Wellington, Tuesday night. The Native Lands Frauds Prevention Bill is safe so far as the Lower House is concerned, but there is some risk as to its passage through the Legislative Council. It is rumored that influence is at work there to do away with the necessity of aach individual native transaction in land being interpreted to the native vendor or lessor, and instead merely to have the translation on the deed. If the Upper House insists on this the Native Minister will abandon the Bill altogether, and thus everything in native matters will remain in ttatu quo. The Native Land Court Bill came on for discussion to-night. A large number of amendments are proposed, involving questions that in the present tamper of the House may result fatally to the measure. One defect is in bringing all these Native Bills on at the fag end of the session. Members have not time to consider the bills, and are anxious to return to their homes. They look almost entirely to Mr Carroll (who has established a reputation on tbis subject that that is difficult to override) to disarm opposition. His aid and assurance in tho fullest degree msy be relied upon in having really beneficial legislation passed this scMion.
