POLITICAL NOTES.
'THE LATEST FROM THE HOUSE. ANOTHER NO CONFIDENCE MOTION' [raOM OCB OWN COBBBSFONDXNTS.] Wellington, last night. In the House yesterday, the afternoon sitting was occupied in answering questions, and the evening sitting was devoted in Committee to dealing with the Premier’s resolutions in reference to the ocean mail services, all three of which were carried, amendment* by Messrs Ward and Saunders being rejected. The first resolution affirmed the desirableness of making further provision tor the conveyance of mails fortnightly between the Colony and Great Britain, at a cost not exceeding £28,730, which was carried by 31 to 26. The second authorised the Government to arrange for a renewal of the 'Frisco and direct services for twelve months, which was carried by 33 to 20. The third resolution merely gave effect to the other two, and was also carried. The resolutions were then reported to the House, and agreed to by 33 to 19. Last evening the Premier made a presentation of a gold hunting watch to Mr McGregor, senior Government Whip. The affair took place in the Cabinet room, in the presence of 22 members, including all the Ministers. It is expected that Mr Ballance's motion respecting the early dissolution, will be defeated by seven or eight votes, as Ministers have now made it a no confidence motion. Some of their supporters grumble at that, as they intended voting for the motion. The debate will probably be on this evening. On the motion for going into Committee of Supply on the Supplementary Estimates, the Committee, on the petition of Inspector Bullen, reported yesterday that as he had received £6OO compensation on his dismissal they could not recommend that his prayer be granted. In the House this afternoon the Licensing Act Amendment Bill, enabling a married woman to hold a publican's license, was read a second time, The second reading of the Health Act Amendment Bill, for the (Regulation of dairies and inspection of I slaughter houses, was negatived on the voices. > The Native Land Court Bill was partly considered in Committee, and its further consideration was interrupted by the 5.80 adjournment.
