He said persons were kept waiting about for the ferryman and in one case he had to ferry himself across. Mr J. Trimmer sent in an explanation to the above statement, He said that Rhodes went straight to the punt and ferryed himself across. The man in charge was only about 100 yards away having his dinner. The Clerk said he had made particular enquiry into the complaints, and he found that all the settlers spoke highly of the way in which the ferry was conducted. Cr King said the Council could not consider a private grievance. Cr Murphy said that Rhodes' had been training the opposition publican’s horse. It was decided to acknowledge receipt of the letter.

Mclntosh with the consent of and under the authority of your Council. As your Council is aware, Mr Malone is a serious loser by the removal, and unless the claim is settled amicably we will be obliged to take proceedings for the recovery thereof.” Both the Engineer and the Clerk denied giving the authority as stated.—Cr Tuohy proposed, and Cr McPhail seconded, that a reply be sent stating that the Council gave no authority for the removal of the metal. The police reported that the natives were stealing timber from the Makarika road The Engineer was authorised to sell the timber which was not required by the Council.
