A.J.C. SPRING MEETING. Sydxiy, September 21. The attendance today at the first day’s racing of ihe Australian Jockey Club’s Spring Meeting, though good, wa. below the average in consequence of the intermittent rain. Ths following are the results : — Hurdle Race, 2J miles—Willoughby, 10.10, 1; Beggarman, 11.7, 2; Ogre, 10 0. 3. Four others started. At the finish Willoughby won rather easily by four lengths. Time, Smins 3-eca. Trial Stakes, 1J miles—The Tyler, 7.9. 1 ; Magnus. 8.5, 2; Little Bsrnie, 6 12. 8. Won with a little in hand. Tims, 2mins 16Jwcs. Epsom Handicap, 1 mil.— Novic, 6 6.1 : Dreadnought, 7.12, 2; Sorella, 6 12, 8. 24 others started. From a good .tart Dread, nought led to the straight, where it looked a certainty tor the son of the doughty Chester, but Novice, who challenged him al the distance, staying longest, won a good race by two thirds of a length. Time, Imin 43J secs. Spring Stakes, miles—Aoercorn, 9.5, 1; Melos, 9.0, 2 ; Sinecure, 7.2,3. Three others started. The flag fell to an even start, from which Melos made the running, and even when well in the straight appeared to have the race, but Hales brought along the top weight, and inside the distance got on terms with the leader, gaining the verdict by half a length. Manton, although be ran well, was at no part of the nice dangerous, and finished fourth, having beind him Australian Peer and Keith, in the order named. Welter Handicap, 1A miles—Mikado, 1; Pirate, 2 ; Hester, 3. Eleven others started. Won easily. Time, 2tnins 20secs.
A.J.C. Derby, 1| miles—Hon. J. White's b c Singapore, by Martini Henry—Malacca, (Huxley) 1; Hon. J. White's br g Rudolph, by Martini Henry—Rusk, (Hales), 2 ; Mr T. Lamond's br c Sydney, by Maribyrnong— Blue and White, (Harn.), 8. Knight Templar and Merriment also started. The betting was 5 to 4 against Merriment, 6 to 4 against Rudolph, sto 1 against Singapore. At the tall ot the flag Knight Templar went to the front and led the field for about 200 yards, Merriment then assumed command ot affair, and on passing the etand was a clear length ahead of the field. Singapore, Knight Templar, Sydney and Rudolph followed in the order named. When the mile had been covered there was very little alteration in the positions; the field then closed up and the favorite was soon in trouble. Entering the straight Singapore led, and Halee, who had the mount on Rudolph—a stable companion —now made a desperate effort to get on even terms, and although ho easily disposed ot Sydney he failed to catch the leader, who won easily by a length and a halt, the favorite being last. July Stakes, seven furlongs, with 8.8, easily from Rs, 7.8, Ellerstene, 7.0, and others in 1.30, but took all the gloss off that good deed by utterly failing to got near the first flight with 8 0 in the TatlersaU*. Spring Handicap, which fell an easy prey to Bustler 6.10, in 2.11, with Amina 7.4, and Pet Girl 84 in the places. He ia built on lines which suggest groat improvement as he advances in age, and I doubt not but that before the end of the season he will have established a nice winning record,") The following are the acceptances for the Metropolitan Stakes, to be run on Tuesday

The stewards of the Dunedin Jockey Club passed a severe vote of censure on the riders ot Erebus and Tramp in the Hunt Club Cup for racing after running round the jumps. The programme arranged for the Waerenga-a-hika Jockey Club's annual races on Boxing Day, ia both an attractive and liberal one, comprising the following events Maiden Plate of £2O. Boxing Day Handicap of £lOO, Handicap Hurdle Race of £6O, Hack Hurdle Race of £lO, Flying Stakes of £4O, Hack Flat ot £lO, Forced Handicap of £2O ; total: £260. The distance of the big handicap has been reduced from 2 miles to If mile., and the Maidan from 1| miles to If miles. Mr C. D. Bennett was selected judge and handicapper, Mr Colebrook clerk of the scales, and Mr A. Pritchard clerk of the course; the whole of the committee are to act ae stewards for the season, The secretary, Mr M. G, | Nasmith, having tendered his resignation, J Mr J. Harding was appointed secretary prp fem.
