Hawke’s Bay Education Board.
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT, J
Napier, last night.
At a meeting of the Education Board yesterday the Chairman stated that intimation had been received from Wellington that the building vote had been allocated. The Board’s ehare was only £ll2O 16s, and the overdraft was £1967, and would be over £2OOO when the accounts of the month were paid. Of course, under the circumstance, the Board onuld not entertain any proposals for the building or enlargement of schools. It was resolved to recommend the School Commissioners of the'Hawke’s Bay district to set apart a portion nf the revenue from endowments for Secondary Education. to form a Scholarship Fund, such fund to be open to children attending country schools. A letter was ’read from the Tologa Bay School Committee, asking whether they could compel owners nf adjoining land to pay half the cost of fencing in the school site, such fence having been erected before the Crown sold the land. The matter was referred to the Board's solicitor.
