lABT NIGHT'S PBELIMINABY MEET.

There promises to bo a large amount of Interest taken In the annual Hospital Sports, thia year. A mooting was hold last night, Captain Winter presiding, and there being about 25 other gentleman present—the largest attendanos yat at any iof the pre< Uminary meeting'. It was decided to hold the sports on Mon. day, December 2, aa St. Andrew’s Day fella on a Saturday, a day which would be moot inconvenient to observe at a holiday. The following selections of officers were made i— Patrons—His Worship the Mayor and Chairmen of the local bodlee. Judges—Mestre W. F. Crawford, C. C, Lucas, R. Watson, and J. W. Nolen. Starter—Captain Winter. Referee—MrC. Evans. Handicapper,—Messrs G. Primruee, W. Fraser, and J. Nesbitt, • . Secretaries—Messrs H." McKay and R. N, Jones, General Committee—Hospital Trasbees and Officer!, Messrs W O. Sheet, J. Whitby, W. Morgan, E. P. Joyoe, 0. Lewis, Quigley, E. Pavltb. J. H Colbourne. T. Morruon, A. Gregg, S. McLernon, and T. Morgan. Last year's programme vu agreed to, with the exception of the swimming agid canoe races, in place of which there were suhstltu’ed a special event for the Hussars and tilting in the ring contest; and there were also added a bicycle nee and putting the atone content. It was decided that the mon-y prizes be not le's ’han la t year. Messrs Whinray, Nolan, end Quigley were unpointed a Committee to wau upon the Directors of the Park Company, to make arrangements for ths use of the Company'! grounds, for tbe purpose of holding the sports in. It was resolved to write to the Gisborne Band, to secure their attendance on the occasion, and it was decided, ss usual, to hold an entertainment on the evening follow* ing the sports. A meeting of the General Committal will be held next Monday evening, to definitely arrange the order of the programme.
