VICTORIA AMATEUR TURF CLUB’S SPRING MEETING.

Melbourne, October 19.

For the concluding day’s racing of tbe above meeting beautiful weather was experienced, although the sky was somewhat overcast. The course was rendcrei heavy owing to rain having fallen on Thursday and Friday. Sir Henry and Lady Loch and Sir Wm. Robinson were present. The attendance was the largest ever seen on the Caulfield course, and the racing was of the highest order of merit. The win of Boz in the principal event was not an unalloyed blessing to the ring, as the son of Bothwell—l-lypata has been steadily supported since the weights appeared, Charmer, who finished second for the Cup, ran a rattling good mare. It appears as the irony of fate that Ramage, who has just severed his connection with Cook's stable, should ride a horse to “ pip ” the latter’s candidate at the finish. B>z has been doing the very best work at Flemington, and J. Cripp (his owner) lands a very good stake, The following are the results :—

Maiden Plate—Sequel 1, Gnaroo 2, and Linburn 3. Eleven horses started. The race was won with ridiculous ease by three lengths, a' head separating the second and third horse.

Nursery Handicap—Magic Circle 1, Utter 2, Clare 3. From the fall of the flag the race was never in doubt, as Magic Circle, jumping off with tbe lead, maintained the adantage till the finish, eventually winning by three quarters of a length. Time, sC>£secs. Selling Race—Crown Jewel 1, Best Man 2, Derision 3. The favorite, Vascosa, came in first by half a length, but a protest lodged on behalf of Crown Jewel on the ground of boring was sustained, aud the race awarded to CiOwn Jewel.

Caulfield Cur—Boz (Ramage) 1, Charmer 2, Bravo 3. The other starters were —Manton, Pakeha, Lonsdale, Stanley, Wycombe, Chaldean, Teuton, Bothwell, Silverton, Don Giovan, Sinecure, Moorbank, Menntti, Gasburner, Metenr, Dunkaid, Gretnisle, Tartar, and Islander. From an excellent start the colors of Charmer, Chaldean, Dunkeld, and Sinecure were most prominent. After hovering for half a mile Sinecure went to the front, and was closely followed by Teuton, Charmer, Don Giovan, Boz, and Gasburuer. Another couple of furlongs further on Pakeha made a bold bid for victory, but had to give way to Clarmer, who was first into the straight. At the distance post Bos came out of the ruck, and challenging the loader, gradually woie her down, winning by three quarters of a length, Bravo being a length behind the second horse. Then followed Meteor, Pakeha, Silverton, Wycombe, Teuton, and Stanley, in that order. Time, 2 min. 43 sec. Open Handicap Steeplechase—Curiosity 1, Pater Osbeck 2, Sir John Moore S. GISBORNE RACING CLUB’S SPRING MEETING, The following handicaps have been declared for the above race meeting, which takes place on the Park Company's new course on Monday, November 11 :—

It is stated that Mr W. Tatham, the well, known Napier trainer, has purchased the rosdster stallion Cotberstone, The horse was shipped away to Napier on Friday last, accompanied by Uranus and Bronte. Mr W. Gannon’s sudden intention to withdraw from active turf pursuits was a great surprise to Sydney people. No cause has been assigned for his action, but it Is said that he is dissatisfied with the way his horses are handicapped, “ Hippo ” says :—Pretender, Tongariro, Audacity, Comomile, Soudan, and the pony mare Marama have all been purchased to go to Australia, where there seems to to be a great demand for hordes of the class which are here only considered very second or third class racehorses. Messrs Keith and Paniti have been the purchasers.
