Two men, named Gam and James Stewart, went for a sail in an open boat, accompanied by a young woman named spaekman. They left Petone about 7.40. About 11 o’clock the Petone Navals, hearing of the accident, launched their cutter, and searched the harbor until about 12 80, when they were rewarded by finding the boat, bottom up, with Miss Spaokman astride of her keel. Thay at once made all haste for Ngahauranga where shewas taken to an hotel, although very exhausted she soon recovered. She states that when the boat capsized all three occupants got safely on the boat, she helping Stewart, who was a delicate man. Half an hour after Stewart’s strength gave out, and he fell back into the water and was never Been again. Gum, who was a power ful young mm, showed signs of exhaustion after being an hour on the boat, and shortly after droppe 1 into the water. Miss Spick man saw him floating alongside the overturned boat some time, but could do nothing to help him. Gum was a single man, about 21 years of age. Stewart was a widower with three children.
