The above met yeaterday afternoon. Pre•«nt: Councillor. Clark (Chairmtn), Stubb., Coleman, Tuohy, Orr. and McPhail. The Crown Lande Department wrote *tat> ing that the eum of £59 8s 3J had been placed to the Council'* credit in the B»nk ot New Zealand, the proposals for expand!* ture of that amount having been sanctioned. H. Kenway wrote atating that h* preferred h*ving the deviation at To P*hl,Waimata, left over for th* present as the cost would be muoh greater than was at first anticipated. Mr Clayton wrote asking that the bolae In McLean Street should be filled in Agreed to expend £3 on the work. C, Evane wrote calling attention to the fact that the law forbidding parties to drive, or ride otherwise than at a walk over th* bridges, was more honored in the breach than in the observanoe. He suggested that steps should be taken to enforce the bye law, or that the notice board* should be taken away.

Decided to reply stating that if Mr Eran* would name a case the Council would take action.

The Engineer reported that he had let a contract on the Waimata and Waiapu roads, and that it wa* also necessary to reconstruct the bridge on the Wainui road at a cost of about £2O. The Waiapu inland road required a deviation so as to avoid a slip.—Adopted. Two tenders were received for the Tologa Ferry, viz., E. Kirk (accepted) £165, and J Trimmer £l5O. The following acoqants were passed for payment I— B. Brooking £6, Jones and O'Donnell £3, S. Doleman £l5 11* 6d. Leary and Cnurtuey £4 16s, Brownlow and Taylor £l2 12s, J. Wall £4 Ils. Engineer'* sundries £1 6s, G. Pitcher £29 10s, J. Mclntosh £ll6 14s 9d, A. Muir £3 16. fid, salaries £4B 16s Bd, T. Brown £l5. petty cash £3, Exhibition Committee £25, Standard Co, £3 3s fid. O gtubbs proposed and Cr Tuohy seconded that the payment of 73 per oent be made, which would leave £75 as ample security for any claim that Malone might make.— Carried. The Clerk reported the solicitor's opinion re Mclntosh’s stone contract, and eaid that he was awaiting full particular* with regard . to ihe title of the quarry, but he advised * the Council to keep sufficient money in hand to indemr ;fy Malone's claim Cr Tuohy suggested that Mclntosh should enter into a, bond to secure the Council, and that a special meeting be held on Saturday week to consider the question, Mr Kenny to be asked to attend on that day. It wa* also agreed to hold over the tenders till that day. Cr Coleman proposed, and Cr Tuohy seconded, that a rate of |d in the A be made on all property in the County for the period ending 31st March, 188 Q, to be due In one sum on 15th November.—Carried.

Mr J. Warren, Clerk, asked for leave of absence for one mouth to go to the Exhibition.—Cr Tnohy thought that was too lor• a time for Mr Warren to be absent.—Cr Coleman suggested that a person should be named who would be responsible for the office work during the Clerk's absence.—Cr Tuohy moved that the request bs not granted, which waa seconded by the Chairman.—Cr Stubbs proposed an amend* ment to the effect that leave be granted on condition that a substitute be employed. This was seconded by Cr McPhail and carried. Those for the amendment were Councillors Stubbs, King, McPhail, Orr, and Coleman, Againstthe Chairman and Or Tuohy. The works required on th* Waiapu roads were ordered to be done, on the motion ot Cr Stubbs.
