The Sullivan Fraud.
FROM OUB OWN GOHBBSPOXDENT. ]
Auckland, last night.
Clampett, alias Sullivan, was interviewed last night by a Star reporter. He stated that he was a Roman Catholic, and was led to go on the religion racket through being stone broke. He saw some street preachers and thought there was a gool thing in it. He followed them to a Primitive Methodist Churoli, and soon became identified with religion. He spoke highly of his success in Christchurch, which he put down to weak women, who were much influenced by him. He said he made about £lOOO. He stated his name was Arthur Clampett Waterford. He came to the colonies five years ago to be engaged to Dion Boucicault, but got on the spree and was not engaged. He left by the Zealandia for ’Frisco this afternoon. He said his success showed how easily it was for dissenters to be gulled. He intends making a confession in 'Frisco and die a Roman Catholic.
