ROWING NOTES.

As tbs time draws nigh for the decision of the trial tours of ths G.R.C. and P.B. R,C. treater interest is being manifested in the doings of the various crews. Both clubs have accepted Mr Fraser's offer ot medals to he competed tor between the winners of each Club's final heat. Mr Fraser's action in making the competition open to both clubs is generally considered a good one, and might be followed by futere donors of prises, with good results, as it certainly gives a greater interest both to the rowers and the publie, Of the Gisborne crew Teat's is still the popular fancy, though if Miller’s crew improve as they have been doing, the favorites will have to do their very best to win. Spurdie has taken Ratcliffe's crew rather late in the day, but even now they are not considered out of the hunt, and may effect a surprise, Lunn's and Green's crews are doing good work also, and appear quite confident of their ability to make the best of them travel. Pairing off takes place in a day or two, which will be duly announced. Tbe P.B.R C’s. crews are also bard at work, and appear to like it fudging from the long and vigorous exercise they take when out. Walters' crew are most often out, but appear to require all the practice they can get, This applies to No 3 and bow, who do not seem to be in accord with Stroke and No. 3. who are in fairly good form ; this crew row in tbe first heat with Nisbet's Grew, who although to appearance a>e a weak Crew, yethave many admirers; their time and rowing is good, and they appear able to stay well over a distance. Stroke is a very fast rower, and keepa bis crew hard at it all tbe way, be evidently believea in sending them along, •nd getting as fit as time will allow. Nos. 3 and 2 are rowing well up to their usual form. Bow |s the main-stay of thia crew, and appears to be as fit as a fiddle; he is not a handsome rower, but be gets tbe weight in, and goes all the way. This crew will row in the final, and be very bard to beat. Sawyer's crew row in the second hsat with Mar-hall, These crews are VWj—€Venly matched, though Sawyer's oraw “'are rowing in better style and appear to be doing good work. Marshall, however, is a stayer, and has a strong crew behind him; No 3, though awkward, is improving fast, and may row a good oar by the day; No 2is the beat oar in the crew and should stay well; bow yows very fairly and appears to be in good fettle, though he is young for a hard race, ae this will be. Loomb ie pulling stroke in Sawyer's crew and improving fast; Saw- , yer 3, Leslie 2, and Nutting bow, all row well, and from present appearances should win the final heat.
