The Irish Delegates.

(to this editor/

Siu,—“ Hibernian ” treats the matter of the reception o! the Irish delegatee far too seriously and ascribes to their little begging tour an importance it hardly deserves. I! people like to subscribe in order to feed Mr Dillon and his compeers on the fat of the land, why should they not do ao ? As you remark New Zealand is a free country—and then tbe amount can be easily saved by cutting down household expenses or paying eighteenpence in the £to creditors. Personally I do not think that any sum collected in the colonies will do much to further tbe cause, even if applied to that purpose ; and I must say that I think the landlord is quite as worthy ot consideration as the tenant who makes a living from his land and robs him of his rent, with or without pretext, Whether Home Bule would do good for Ireland, or the contrary, time will tell. Were we to judge by past experience the verdict would scarcely be favorable. Ot one thing, however, there ean be but little doubt, and that is that the Union was profitable to a certain class of parliamentary representatives with which Mr Dillon may well claim kindred. No doubt the Home Bule members are acting for tbe beat, according to their lights. " Going for the gloves ” is not confined solely to turf practices,—l am, Ac., Ibunsai*.
