Thx Board met on Tuesday evening. Present : The Chairman (Captain Tucker) and Members Chambers, Townley, Clark, Shelton, Bennett, and Dr Pollen. The Marine Department wrote stating that they would accede to the Board's request for the breakwater to be built on the line originally proposed by tbe Board’s Engineer. Tbe Harbormaster reported that Captain Skinner bad a boat for sale, which would replace tbe one recently smashed, the cost being £lO., Mr Burns offers £1 for tbe old boat. Additional springs will be required for the breakwater as soon as possible. Tbe Chairman moved that the Harbor Master be instructed to purchase the boat, which was seconded by Mr Townley, and carried, It was also agreed to .accept Mr Burns’ offer for the old boat. Mr Shelton aaid he conjdey.qd these springs were an unneoesaary pxpAnae',’aa..qqi benefit waa at present derived by the boat's coming alongside the breakwater jn .(act itwas costing the Board a large of 'money in keeping the river dredged so that vessels could lay at the pier. Only a short while ago new hawsera were purchased and now it waa found that they were not answerable for the work. He thought it was a waste <f money to keep these appliances on hand until there was proper accommodation for vessels. It would st present be far better if tbe steamers did not discharge at the breakwater.
The matter was left over to ascertain the different prices of hawsers.
