Mr Arthur on the Stump.

Mr Arthur addressed a meeting of the electors at Waerengahika last night. As on the Education question he has now adopted Mr Rees' views bn Local Self Government. He reiterated his praise of that tbrMng jonrnal, the Standard, and said bg h*d read it with more interest than he had ever read a newspaper before in bis life, Of course he gloated over whet be considered our inconsistencies—he dors not yet know the disrinetion between a man and party fight, poor fellow—and drawing from a pocket next his heart, where he was treasuring it, a cutting from t|ie Standard, read it to the audience, calmly swallowing our sardasms on himself as genuine praise. The only con. sistency about tfle BiAvnAßi; was that it stuok out in its opinion that be (Mr Arthur) wasn’t of much account, He introduced into bis speech a doggerel about Mr Reee, which should have been received with deafening applause—but wasn't. Indeed applause was a rarity throughout. Three q estione were aeked, and answered, and a vote of confidence was proposed, which the chairman’ (Mr Cotebrobk) put to the meeting and declared it carried unanimously, omitting to call fqr the " noes.” Several hands were not held up.
