Mr Buckley’s statements at the annual meeting of shareholders of the Bank of New Zealand has caused a sensation here. The Financial Times denounces what it terms the deception of shareholders, and says that after such statements it is only fair to convene a general meeting to consider the situation, and suggests that to obviate panic amongst depositors, the New Zealand Government should interpose ; otherwise, the only hope for the Bank is for the English directors to carry a resolution to send, at any cost, a delegate to the colony to report on the agitation in progress. ' In case of a general strike of gasmen and coal porters it is feared that violence will be resorted to, in consequence of the Metropolitan Companies boarding and lodging blacklegs on their premises. Universal regret is expressed at the death of Searle, the champion sculler. - It is ■Understood that the Royal Family have expressed to the Cabinet their indignation at Lord Carrington becoming the mouthpiece of Australian Nationalism in his vice-regal speech at the opening of the New South Wales Parliament. The London Trades Union repudiate the interference of Bums and other outside agitators. ■ ....
