ENTLEMEN,—At the request of a large VST number of my fellow settlers, I have consented to stand for the district.

I feel honored by the distinction of being asked to represent the district which I have lived in for seventeen years, and have seen so improved by settlement as to be one. of the best in the colony. I need hardly say that if returned I shall do my utmost for the electorate. While feeling that I should be greatly honored by being returned, I yet consider that Electors are under an obligation to a Member, it he does his duty, for the time, trouble, and expense he is put to on their behalf.

I regret that I oannot spare time at this busy season of the year to canvass, nor am I so wealthy aa to ba able to spend money over the election.

I will qt the forger centres of population address the Electors and give anch information as to my political opinions as may be necessary, which, combined with a know, ledge of me that a great many of my fellow. settlere have, should be amply sufficient to satisfy Electors in voting, I should, if returned, expect to exercise entire independence in my actions in Parliament, using my judgment to vole aa I think right and best suited tor the constituency, I am a believer in the present Government, with Sir Harry Atkinson as Premier, though I should not be a blind supporter. I think the late addition to the Ministry and the new distribution of seats likely ta atrengthen the present Goverpme?*! I consider their attodj eooduot in the affairs of the country, particularly with regard to retrenchment, hue materially resuscitated thp credit of the colony.
