ENGLAND’S TROUBLE WITH PORTUGAL.
FBIENDLY INTERCESSION OF THE GREAT POWERS, POBTUGVBBE PBEBB LIBELLING THE ENGLISH PEOPLE. London. Dooember 28. The Portugese press asserts that the English supplied arms tn the Matabeles to enable them to revolt and uphold slavery. The Great Powers have offered their friendly offloos in the dispute between Eng, aland and Portugal. It is hoped the two Govtrnintntß will define the boundaries of Zambesi, and that they will ba confirmed afterwards by an European Conference. December 28. A Portuguese corvette has been ordered to remain st Deloga Bay, Mr G, G. Petre, - British Minister st Lisbon, is oonferring with Benor Gorumd, Portuguese Minister for Foreign Affairs, on the subject of the rights over Zambesi. Negotiations are being condusted In a friendly spirit on both sides.
