At the late Napier Park Races four horses were entered for the Hurdle Race. In Napier there are three newspapers and three sporting writers. Each writer tipped a different horse, and not one hit upon the winner ! The well-known sporting writer " Hippo " writes as follows :—The weights for the Poverty Bay Turf Club have been declared. For the Hurdles I should pick Waterfall to be tbe best in, and for the Flying Katinka ; for the Turanga Stakes, if Deceiver was well, there should be nothing else in it, but should ha not be right, then I should pick' Burd or partner.il ■ r Mr M. J, Gannon Is advertising in the Opotiki paper that he has numerous olienta willing to take up flax country in the vicinity or elsewhere, Capitalists are to erect mills if tbe terms are reasonable, Sharks have lately been seen up the TaSqherii river, and as there is a large number of children continually bathing at the sheds and other parts of the river, it would be well to consider whether there should not be a space enclosed, so as not to avoid the danger from sharks, TENDERS, TENDERS WANTED—To Cut and Deliver from 100 to 150 cords of FIREWOOD.
