Porteons, Booth, South, Collins, Dumsford, Greaves, Bell, Molley, Milne, Torrie, Ford, Douglas, Renouf, Wug, Johnson, and two Maoris. The Union Company’s steamer Manapouri, from Sydney and Auckland, arrived here on Saturday afternoon. Passengers: Mesdames Hurry, Chapman (and infant), and McManus, Messrs Wingate, Bnow, Milkeljohn, Eade, and Laing. DEPARTURES. The s.s. Manapouri went on south on Saturday evening, taking—Mesdames Gard ner, Higgins, Finch (and infant), Robb, Jennings, Finn (and child), Misses Preston, Jeff, Quinney, Williams. Bee, and Rosie (2), Judge Barton, Messrs Finn, Tucker, George, Jennings, Leach and White. The s.s. Tekapo steamed on to Auckland at 13.30 yesterday morning. The barque Lochnagar wag to have left Napier yesterday for this port. The Union Steam Ship Company’s steamer Tekapo, which arrived in port yesterday, from Melbourne, via the South, has recently been overhauled, and had an extra dining saloon with sleeping berths for 96 passengers added. The work was carried out at Port Chalmers, and occupied some three weeks. The space taken up by the additions was formerly used for cargo. The new saloon is In the centre of the vessel, and although no profuse decorations have been made the work which has been done is of a substantial character and quite up to the standard of excellence maintained by the Union Company. All the furniture and equipments both in the new saloon and sleeping berths are of New Zealand manufacture, and the alterations were made under the personal supervision of Captain Cameron, marine superintendent to the company. The panels of the saloon are of New Zealand wood and handsomely polished, and the compartment is as well ventilated and as well lighted as any we have seen, added to which upholstery of Utrecht velvet makes a very comfortable saloon, There are two tables, with good seating accommodation, In the new state rooms are all requirements for passengers. Each sleeping birth has a spring mattress of Dunedin manufacture, and in each cabin is a settee upholstered with velvet, together with a wardrobe. In each room is accommodation for four passengers. An icehouse has also been built. While in the dock everything about the vessel was painted, cleaned, or varnished ; and the machinery, boilers, &0., were overhauled under the supervision of Mr Cook, the superintendent engineer of the company.
