Cricket: Auckland versus Wellington.
AN EXHIBITION OF AUCKLAND. (FROM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Wellington, last night. The cricket match Auckland v. Wellington was commenced to day. The attendance was poor in spite of the beautiful weather. The wicket was very fast, but slightly bumpy. Morioe and Kieher played for Wellington in the place of Colins and Ogier. Auckland went in first and were all out for 48. Gardiner (13) was the only double figure scorer. Dryden and Firth bowled without a change, the former taking 5 wickets for 18 and the latter 4 for 24. The Auckland men explain that af.er the slow wickets down South the Wellington wicket ia altogether too fast for them,
In the cricket match Auckland v Canterbury, the former won by five wickets. Mr Arthur Bees, formerly of Gisborne, did the lion’s ehare of the work for Auckland, his noted ",vorkers" doing grand execution among the Canterbury stumps. He also made some splendid catches while acting as a substitute in the field for one ef the Southerners, getting out four Auckland players. When he went to take his bat in the first innings his partner was disposed of, and Rees had to carry his bat back without even getting a chance to strike. He was among those who did not bat in the second innings.
