Dog Collars and Tenderers.
Aj the meeting of the County Council yesterday the following letter was read We beg to call your attention to the saanner in which the contract for the supply of dog collars is being carried out; and which calls for an explanation from the person responsible for the due observance of the specifications and conditions of such con- - Waet. We unhesitatingly assert that a palpable and unfair advantage 1b being obtained by the present contractor against your Council, and which is equally unfair to the other tenderers for such contract. We claim to have a full knowledge of the value of the work under notice, and submit that the present contractor is a gainer of Dot lees than by the non-observance of the clause specifying that the collars shall M according to sample, of good leather, and £he plates fastened op with three rivets, Wow, the facta are as follows I—The collars already delivered and accepted by your Clerk are very much inferior to the sample, and are fastened with two rivets only. Bow, the gain to the contractor by omitting one rivet, together with the labor eared, is on ' one hundred collars about 15s, or 410 on 1400 collars. Jn regard to the other question ks to the quality of the leather we leave it to yourselves for inspection, and would ask yon to compare the article being supplied With the sample. Another condition is that the contractor should supply the Dollars fastened in bundles of ten, Thia is not being observed—greatly to the eui.'.mc'.or's benefit—We have, etc., M. Hall. A postscript wae added, recognising that if the contractor complied with the conditions he would probably be a heavy loser, but the writers contended that the principle should be maintained. The Clerk considered that the work was fairly done. Councillors, after inspecting the collars, concluded that though the particular one singled out was not of (first quality, on the whole the soutractWM tatlsfnohrily carried
