The Heavy Sea on the Coast.
' THE SHIPPING FIXTURES. Tub b.s. Australia in expected to reach here thi? morning, from Auckland. She is at present fixed to leave for Napier at 1 o’clock this afternoon. The Southern Crees and Rotomahana both leave Napier this' evening, arriving here early on Sunday morning. Launches leave the wharf at 6 and 8, Yesterday afternoon there was a heavy sea breaking in the bay and passengers coming ashore from the Wairarara hod a very unpleasant time of it. Towards evening the sea increased so much that about 6 o'clock the Wairarapa signalled that she could not remain any longer in the roadstead, and she then steamed on to Napier. Ths cargo for this port had to be carried on, and several thrqugh pas. sengers who came ashore in the first launch ware left behind. The passengers booked to leave by ths Wairarapa were Mesdames Franklyn, Woon, Joyce, Bhipps, Spence, Skillioorn, Nicholson and five children, Misses Anderson, Hick, McKenzie (2), Spence (2), and Skillioorn, Rev. Gardiner, Master Witty, Messrs Thom, Harris, Haynes, Fountain, South, McLean, Joyce, Phipps, Evans, Veale, and E. S. Goldsmith. The Australia going South this afternoon will have an unusually large complement of pas congers, as a number of these who intended leaving by last night’s steamer will go by this boat.
The seas were breaking over the and of tha breakwater pier yesterday evening, huge rollers making a furious sweep over the stone work. When Mr Christensen went out to the end of the pier to fix the light be got struck by a breaker and was nearly washed off. 4 talephone message from Mr S. Morgan, of the Pakarae Hotel, states that a very heavy sea is raging along that portion of the coast, the wind east to southeast. This oinks Of the river are overflowing, abd the tempest gives the piaoe a very wild appearance
