The Dunedin Racing Squabble.

(FROM OUB OWN OORRaSBONDENT.) Dcnkdin, last night. At ths annual meeting o! ihe Jockey Club last evening Mr George McLean, who preelded, epoke at some length on the success of Mr Dowse as handicapper, and said the committee oould never allow horse owners to dictate to them, and he was sure that if the gen'lemen who had complained of the handicapping only thought of what they were doing they would see it was like holding a cannon to the heads of the committee, and that their position was unreasonable and one that the committee could not but oppose. Mr McLean referred to the difficulties of handicapping, and said that errors of judgment would oreep into handicaps i" spite ot the attention ot any man. He hoped the thing would now be set at rest, and that those who had complained would once more come hack and race at Dunedin, as it wa» useless to say their horses were not an advantage to the public vote. A vote of thanks to Mr Dowse and the other officers was carried by acclamation. A letter was read from n number of horse ownets in Otago, approving of Mr Dowes’s handicapping. The incoming oommitiee were recommended to consider Mr Dowse'a claim to a bonus for the services he had rendered in the past.
