Racing in the Argentine Republic is making wonderful strides. In a yery short time no less than SOO thoroughbred horess and mares were purchased from Bngland, and ampngst these was the celebrated Ormonde, whose expatriation by the Duke of Westminster caused so much disgust amongst all true sportsmen in England. They give good prices for anything they fancy, for at a sale recently held 29 two-year-olds averaged over 500 guineas, and, u only 11 were thoroughbred, real good business. The 11 pure bred youngsters fetched altogether 3)11,540, or an average of over £lOOO each. The highest priced ones were a filly by Heir from Particnle, a filly by Balaclava from Princess, and a filly by Kelr from Ambassadress, which brought £2OOO each. A filly by Keir from Whirlwind, by Thormanby or Kingcraft, was s jld for £l2OO, and four'others realised from £7OO to £740. At Mr Kenmisk’s annual sale even better prices were obtained. Altogether 35 two-year-old colts and fillies were disposed of, and one colt fetched $3OOO, another £2OOO, and four over £lOOO, the total being £29,000. This ought to make the mouths of Australian breeders water.
