COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the above Council took place yesterday. Present : The Chairman, and Councillors Tuohy, Murphy, King and McPhail. Messrs Rees and Day wrote claiming £5O bonus for a discovery of stone made by Mt J. Thomson, R.E,—The Council decided not to recognise the claim. A petition signed by 35 settlers at Matawhero was presented, asking the Council to lower the crown of the Matawhero Hoad.— The Council declined to grant the request owing to the scarcity of funds, It was ordered that some fascines should ba put to the approach ot the Matawhero Ford. The specifications for the maintenance contracts for 1890 were read and approved, It was decided to enforce a penalty of £lO 10s on Doloman'a maintenance contract. The following tenders were received for contract C. 968. Oxenham. brick, £45, concrete, £4O ; A. Taylor £77 10s and £72 10s, P. r McLoughlin £63 and £6llos, Doleman end Edwards £49 19s and £49 7s 68. The tender of Mr Oxenham for a concrete culvert was accepted.

Wallis £8 7« 4d, J. A. Harding £1 Bs, A. M. Browne £1 7» 7d, J. Townley £1 4s, Lyon and Blair £3 2s 6d, Engineer £25, Clerk £2O 16s Bd. Returning Officer £3 10s 6d, petty cash £5, J. Villers 15s, General Government £5l 14s 2d.
Au amount of unimportant business was also transacted.
