South Pacific Petroleum Company.
Mb J. H. Stubbs reports that he has succeeded in withdrawing the whole length of pipe, which measures 1285 feet 3 inches, the last joint having two bends in it and the shoe being considerably knocked about. It was repo f id by Mr Weaver that the bore was feet, and that the pipes were down to 1303 feet, or nearly 23 feet more than was drawn, Mr Stubbs has made a report to the company, which goes by to morrow’s mail to Sydney, In which he says that at 1800 feet he cams upon iron which he believes to be a piece af pipe, or something like it, which h« intends to endeavor to cut up before reinserting the pipes, He bears out our special's strictures on the works, in the following language: “ I have had considerable trouble, and lost time every day patching up the rig and machinery. It ia in a moat disgraceful state, and is dangerous to work under, The rig (derrick) was very badly built in the first place, and has never been looked after. Whan any part of the machinery wore loose, it was allowed to rattle away until it rattled itself to pieces. The bull wheels have quite given out, I only just managed to get up the last few joints of pipa with them. They are past repairing, so I have decided to bring the ones from the rig at Foster’s, and have them fitted in.”
