London, Feb. 11. The Rev. D. Barry, formerly Bishop of Sydney and now coadjutor of the Bishop of the See of Rochester, is opposing the oolong! Divorce Bills. Earl Rosebery, in an article in the Soottish Liberal, proposes that the House of Lords be replaced by a body elected for seven years by the Borough and County Councils. The sum of £50,000 has been placed on the Estimates for the expenses of the Parnell Commission. A fund has been started at Guildhall for the families of the miners killed by the explosion at Newport. The dock owners are ceasing to employ Unionists only. Mr Burns threatens to consolidate the Unions, and strike for another advance of a penny. The Bill for validating colonial marriages will be introduced again this session.
A circular sent to the Powers by the Portuguese Government states that boasts of the clemency to natives in the English settlements in Australia and elsewhere are associated with massacres. The circular advocates that arbitration be employed to effect a permanent settlement of the diffi culty between Portugal and England. New Yobk, Feb. 11. The American branch of the Irish National League has appealed for funds to enable rhe Home Rulers to thoroughly contest the British elections. Athens, Feb. 9. Greece is preparing to take action in the Cretan question. Paris,. Feb. 10. The French Press declare that it is impossible to co-operate with the Emperor of Germany on the labor question till Alsace is ceded to France.
Montreal, Feb. 10. Meetings are being held in this city to insist on Canada becoming a free nation.
