HARBOR BOARD.

An ordinary meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday night. Present: The Chairman (Mr Bennett) and Messrs DeLautour, Slavwright, Shnlton, Townley, and Dr Pollen, Mr E. F. Harris wrote agreeing to accept the Board’s offer of £62 10s in full satisfao tion of his claim in regard to the blockyard. The Engineer reported that the breakwater pier was finished 1080 feet and that some of the papa rock in the channel had been removed and he expected soon to put the inner beacon 20 feet nearer shore. In reply to the Chairman the Engineer said the groin was proceeding slowly. In reply to Mr Shelton he said the groin seemed to be deepening the river, but as to the depth of water near the end of the pier the late gale had flattened the spit out and instead of being in a ridge as before the water was made shallow over a wider area. The following accounts were passed for payment:—Weighbridge keeper £l, U. S S. Co. £l3 4s 3d, A. M. Browne £2 17s 6<i, Gas Co. £lB 10s, Wingate Burns and Co, £lB 10s 7d, E. Spurdie 9s, H. E. Johnstonn £25 4s, G. Humphries £6 7s, P. McLoughlin £36 Is Bd, J. Hicks £4 10% Wages account £303 Is 7d. E. F. Harris £62 10% In regard to Captain Tucker’s claim for land taken for the blockyard the matter was gone into and Mr DeLautour pointed out that the Board could not pay tha amount until Captain Tucker had proved the title to it of the Maori from whom it had been conveyed. It was resolved to communioate to that effect tn. Captain Tucker. The Foreshore Committee made a report and after the matter had been diseased it was on the motion of Mr DeLautour adjourned until next meeting, to allow of the various Acts being studied,

On the motion ot Mr Shelton it was resolved that the Secretary piepars for each meeting a statement of funds in hand, with tha liabilities to be placed against them. Mr Shelton said his object was that the Board should always be aware of their position and not leave themselves open to be taken by surprise as the money drew to its limit.

The Secretary said there was now about £7OOO in hand after allowing far currant liabilities.
