ADVERTISEMENT. JDBACTIOAL CHRISTIANITY Published for the. Special Benefit of Non-Chvrchgoebs. True Christi; n Religion, intelligently under stood, comes not to add to men’s burdens, but to remove them. “ For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn tueworld, butthat the world through Him might be saved.” John iii, 17. Its ending doctrines, adapted to tbe use of his New Age, are summarised as follows:— There is one God, in whom is a Divine Trinity of Love, Wisdom and Operation, and he is the Lord Jesus Christ. Saving Faith is to believe in Him. Evils are to be shunned, because they are of the devil and from the devil. Good Works ought to be done, because they are of God and from God, and they ought to be done by man as of himself, but with the belief that they are from the Lord operating in him by him. Tiiere qre two things which constitute the essence of God—love and wisdom. And there are three which constitute the essence of His love—to love others out of Himself: to desire to be one with them: and to make them happy from Himself. The same three Icon stitute the essence of His wisdom; because 3ve and wisdom in God make one, and love wills these things, and wisdom accomplishes them, (True Christian Religion, No. 43.) . The Word of God is Divine truth clothed m human language, and adapted to the vari'd states of the human heart, that thus a man may know God, and learn to know and do His will. “If ye continue in My word, then arc ye my disciples indeed.” John viii, 31 ‘‘Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men°should do unto you, do ye even so unto them : for this is the la'v and the propbete.” Matt, vii., 8. The Ten Commandments point out what evils are to be shunned in that men may attain eternal life,
"That it is not so diffioal t to live the life of heaven as is commonly bi lieved, is evident from this—that when anyth/ ng presents itself that one knows to be iosincs re and unjust, to which his mind is disposed, I <e need only think that it ought not to b@ ci me because it is contrary to tbe Divine oomu lands. If a man accustoms himself so to think, and from custom derives the habit, he is then by degrees conjoined to heaven, aud in s o far as he is con joined to heaven, the higher degrees of his mind are opened : pud in so far as these are opened he sees what is imhwere and unjust; and in so far as he sees th' me evils they can be shaken off, for it is im possible that any evil can be shaken off until'it is seen. This is a state into which a man; may enter from freedom; for who is not os pable of thinking in this manner? But wh tn he has made a beginning all goods are wr ought in him by the Lord, and He causes h im not only to see evils, but also not to will tl tern, and finally to become averse of them. This Is meant bv the Lord’s words, “My y< ike is easy a „d My burden light,” Matt. xi. 30 • But it should be known that ths difficulty of «o thinking, and likewise of resisting evils, increase in propor tion as a man from the will commits evils •’ or in so fat he becomes i tgcuetomed to them' until at length he does not see them, and afterwards loves them, a. o d from the delight of love excuses them, mod bv all kinds of fallacies confirms them, s«4 declares that they are allowable and good, But this occurs
with those who in age of adoleeenoe plunge into evils as if without restraint, and at tbe same time reject lUh’ine things from the heart.”—" Heaven and Hall." (Nd. 533) This advertisement, though containing truth for all, is especially published for the benefit of those who from any cause do not profit by ordinary religious ministrations. Those who approve of the doctrines here enunciated, and who desire to assist in the work of disseminating them, are invited to S;nd contributions to Mr W, F Keen Treasurer of the Sydney Society of the Naw' Ohnrch, Carabella Street, North Shore Sydney. * The Works of Swedenburg and Minor Literature of the New Church can be obtained Stwt M J® 011 ” 4, Bool[ “ u « r > George “ The Doctrine of Lila ” will be forwarded, firatis and post free, to al! parsons who apply or the same to the Book Cotnmitui.
