True Christi, n Religion, intelligently under stood, comes not to add to men’s burdens, but to remove them. •• For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn tne world, butthat. the world through Him might be saved.” John iii, 17.
Its eading doctrines, adapted to the ?ise of his New Age, are summarised as follows :— There is one God, in whom is a D ivine Trinity of Love, Wisdom and Opera tion, and he is the Lord Jesus Christ, Saving Faith is to believe in Him. Evils are to be shunned, because they are of the devil and from the devil. Good Works ought to be done, bec iuse they are of God and from God, and they ought to be done by man as of himself, but with the belief that they are from the Lo rd, operating in him by him. There are two things which constitute the essence of God—love and wisdom. And the re are three which constitute the essence of Bjs love—to love others out of Himself: to desi re to be one with them: and to make the m happy from Himself. The same three Jco n stitute the essence of His wisdom ; becau le 'eve and wisdom in God make one, and lone wills these things, and wisdom accomplish, is them. (True Christian Religion, No. 43.) The Word of God is Divine truth clothed in human language, and adapted to the varr d states of the human heart, that thus a men may know God, and learn to know and do His will. “If ye continue in My word, them are ye my disciples indeed.” John viii, 31 •* Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men'sho'ild do unto you, do ye erven so unto them : for this is the law and the prophets." Matt. vii„ 8. The Ten Commandments point out what evils are to be shunned in order that men may attain eternal life. “ That it is not so difficult to live the life of heaven as is commonly believed, is evident from this—that whan anything presents itself that one knows to be insincere and unjut t, to which his mind is disposed, he need only t hink that it ought not to be done because ft is contrary to the Divine commands. If a man accustoms himself so to think, and from custom derives the habit, he is then by d> agrees conjoined to heaven, and in so far as he i s con joined to heaven, the higher degrees of his mind are opened : andiu so far as the in are opened he sees what is insincere and i mjust; and in so far as he sees these evils th ey can be shaken off, for it is impossible th *t any evil can be shaken off until it is seen This ia a state into which a man may enter from freedom; for who is not capable of Wanking in this manner? But when he haa made a beginning all goods are wrought in. him by the Lord, and Ha causes him not on ly to see evils, but also not to will them, and. Unally to become averse of them. This is r leant by the Lord’s words, “My yoke is easy and My burden light,” Matt. xi. 80* But it i hould be known-that ths difficulty of so thin) dng, end likewise of resisting evils, increase ii > proper; tion as a man from the will oomtnl ta evils; or in so far he becomes accustomed to them, until at length he does not aag (I em, and afterwards loves them, and from tfj i delight of love excuses them, and by all kinds of fallacies confirms them, and declares t bat they are allowable and good. But O*iss occurs with those who in age of adoleemaow plunge into evils as if without ,and at the same time reject Divine thing,, frt tn the heart.”—“Heaven and Hall,” (N n, 54 3) Thia advertisement, though oonlt ining truth for all, is especially published (o r the benefit of those who from any cr,uaa dr, not profit by ordinary religious m inistatti one. rhoae who approve ot the d< ,gtrinoti ..here enunciated, and who desire to itesist ft> the work of diasaminating them, a « invited to send contributions to Mr Vif, F.
