BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tax abova body met on Tuesday evening, when there were present: The Mayor, and Or. Whinray, Coleman, Lucas, Hepburn and Lewis. The County Council wrote:—l have th, honor to inform you that at a meeting of tbil Council, held to day, it was resolved that a deputation from this Council meat a similar deputation from tho Borough Council and Harbor Board in order to arrange a programme ot subjecta to be presented to the Cabinet Ministers upon their arrival hern. It ha, been suggested that three members from each body should meet and formulate a series of requests io be submitted to ths Ministers, a, this Council considers united action at tbil time may secure for the district some recognition at the hands of the Government.— Yours, &0.. IKSPMTOn OF NCIUXOIta MFOHT. Mr Faram reported i—Pound: Up to date I have impounded 178 horses. I nave received no complaints. The town is ranged twice daily, anl independent of that I am working at my other duties the whole day, and should I meet a stray horse, I impound it. For the month of January I paid the Town Clerk 13s 8.1, February £1 Ils 01. Tbis month up to date I have impounded six horses. Nuisances : I hare to oomplain of the nightso'U contractor. Mr Dolaman. He neglects his work, and I am constantly receiving complaints of his nogleot. From October to March his contract specifies he shall empty each closet in the Borough once a week. He does not do so by any means, and he tries to get out of his work. Without going farth»r back thin last week he should have finished now. He can do the work when he chooses, but ho does not. The man he has had working for him refused to work for him again as he owes him £24 for wages. I leave the matter to your Coqacil t > alter as you consider best.
In reply to a question, the Clerk said th* contract had two years to run. On the motion ot Cr Lucas it was decided to call the sureties’ attention to th, matter, at tho same time intimating that the remedies under the contract and bond would be strictly enforced unless the contract was properly carried out. Cr Whinray drew attention to the rapid growth ot thistles in the recreation ground, but the Council decided not to expend any money at present on the work. Accounts were passed as followsE.
