Teachers’ Salaries.
At the last meeting of the H.B. Eduoation Board, a oommittee appointed to review th. salary scales for the payment of teacher, submitted an amended soale. Comparatively few alterations have been made, the more important being those dealing with the salaries of assistant lady teachers, and the salary capitation allowances in certain echo ils. The following are among the principal alterations recommended :— To appoint a paid monitor in eolpola with an average attendance between forty five and flfty-five, the payment being at the rate of half the amount now paid to pupil teaohera of the Ist year. The instruction of monitors to be carried on as in the oase nf pupil teachers. Should the Inspector's report in euoh instruction be satisfactory the teacher in charge will be paid an annual allowance of five pounds. In schools with an average attendance of between fifty five and eighty a pupil teacher will bo appointed as under the preeent regulations. An assistant mistress will be appointed to a school when the average attendance exceed, eighty, instead of seventy-five al now. Au assistant master will be appointed when the average attendance at a school exceeds one hundred and seventy five, instead of one hundred and sixty u now. A larger salary will be paid Io aseistant masters in schools where the average attend* anoe exceeds eighty. A larger salary will be paid to lady assistant, in all schools whore a eingle assistant master io engaged. Larger salaries will be paid to lady assistants in all schools with an averag. attendance be ow seven hundred. The capitation allowance to teaobore ia schools where the average attendance exceeds seveu hundred has been reduced from four shillings to one shilling io respsot to snob excess.
House allowance is withdraw from assistant mistresses. Should the recommendation
be approved it will be necessary to inform the teachers oonoernod that the new coal, will a ime into operation oa the Ist day July aext. The ;.p.rt was approved al.
