Lecture by Mr DeLautour.
There was a large attendance at the Mutual Improvement Society’s meeting last night, when Mr DeLautour lectured on tho subjec*- Colonial Life, and dealt in a very thoughtful way with some of the past and future problems of New Zealand, which country, he predicted, would in the near future occupy a high position among the islands ef the Pacific. He reviewed in order some of the legislation of the colony, and pointed out, the effect it had on the material progress of New Zealand. He concluded a very interesting lecture with an exhortation to his hearers to do what they could towards making New Zealand a great nation. In the unavoidable absence of the President of the Society (Rev. J. Wari), who has gone to the Wairoa, the Bev. Canon Fox occupied the chair.
