SOUTHERN NEWS.
Last night. Stephen Maloney, a decrepit old pensioner, has been brutally murdered in the New Plymouth recreation ground. A native named Mitukai has been arrested on suspicion. The session will probably be opened on the second Thursday in June. Typhoid fever is greatly on the increase at Dunedin, and it is believed to be connected with the milk supply. The General Synod of the Church of England has been convened to meet in Wellington on the 23rd of April, for the election of a Primate. The man Hunter, who was seriously injured at Dunedin by a blow from a bottle by a woman he was living with, is making good progress.
Owing to the detention of the Northern steamer by the heavy weather the Sweating Commission will not ait at Wellington till Wednesday. It is expected next cent us will be taken about April. For the future employers and employed will bi shown in separate columns.
