Betting—7 to 1 agst Carbine, 3 to 1 Melos, 6 to 1 Budolph, 12 to 1 Sir William, 20 to 1 Tiranna, Mantilla, Lancer, Bonnie Spec, and Hop Bitters, 30 to 1 Muriel. Antaue, and Eclipse. As the flag dropped' Bonnie Spec went off with the lead, followed by Mantilla, Tiranna, and Eveline, with Carbine last. Approaching the bend Tiranna had assumed the lead, followed by Bonnie Spec, Hop Bitters, Anta us, Mantilla, and Muriel, Carbine still last. At the mile post Grandson ran up into third place, Eveline and Spec having displaced the leaders. Carbine and Eclipse were last. At the six furlongs the field were well together, and at the bend Mantilla assumed command, with Bonnie Spec and Anteus next, while Carbine coming fast, passed the pair on the outside. A furlong from home Mantilla held the lead, with Sir William next,and Eveline, Grandson, Melos, and Carbine, following in the order named. Opposite the Leger stand Carbine raced through hig field, and coming away won easily by three-quarters of a length. Muriel was third, and Sir William a good fourth. At first it was thought that the latter was third. Then followed Melos, Lancer, Eveline, Budolph, Antaeus, Tiranna, Bonnie Spec, Fernando, and Hop Bitters. Time, 3 min 37 aec.
