A few Notes from Tiniroto
[raoM och own cobbispondent.l Whim I see by late news that complaints of drought are frequent in other portions of the country, we in this district have no reason to complain on that score, rather the reverse being the case. On my first arrival here, I was informed by those who had bean resident for some time that it rained ten months out of twelve hereabouts. I was inolined to think my informants were laying it on rather thick: { have had to change myjopinion on experience, and now begin to look on any fine weather in these; parts as something phenomenal, rain, hail, thunder, lightning and earthquakes all in oneday being not at all infrequent, the latter being of, very constant occurrence. We were favored with a visit from Arohdeacon Williams, oiyour town, on the evening of the find inst., en route to the Wairoa. Service was held in the- dining room of Mr G. Arundel's Hotel, concluding with a short address appropriate to the Easter season. The Rev. Mr Ward, your esteemed Wesleyan clergyman, also took advantage of his presence in the neighborhood, when returning from Wairoa on Good Friday evening, to hold a service in the same place. The attendance on either occasion was not numerous, there being but few settlers hereabouts, all of whom could not conveniently attend. The local flax mill which is owned by Messrs Johnston and Dighton, and which has been under repair for some time past, is again in working order, having received a thorough overhaul at the efficient hands of Mr D. Kidd, of your town. This mill is now making an excellent sample and should compensate the proprietors well for their industry and enterprise.
