Another Napier Harbor Scandal.
OVER TWO THOUSAND POUNDS WRONGFULLY PAID. MR CARR STILL PROBING UP SHADY MATTERS. [fbom oub own CORRESPONDENT.] Navibb, last night. At a meeting of the Harbor Board yesterday afternoon, Mr Carr, the Eagineer, presented a report stating that on examining the hooks of the Clerk of Works he had arrived at the conclusion that the Board had paid a considerable amount for material which had not been supplied, the sum being not less than £2042, la details furnished by him Mr Carr pointed out that on one occasion as much as 60 or 70 tons of stuff was put down as having been carried by one truck. The Chairman (Mr Ormond) stated that he had direotedjhs Secretary to hold back from the contractor a month's instalment on the contract, pending legal advice whether meneys wrongly paid cannot be recouped in some way. OTHER MATTERS. The Board has decided to purchase one of the steel bag block hopper boxes from the Gisborne Harbor Board. The tender of Messis Palliser and Jones, of Timaru, for the next section of the breakwater. was accepted, the amount being £85.936 7a. With a view of rendering the breakwater available for vessels at an early date it was resolved to cable to England for a chain cable required, and to get the requisite buoys manufactured ia the eolony,
